Piglog 105 is equipped with a formula for calculation of the lean meat percentage. The formula is based on the measurement of the backfat and loin muscle thickness, done at a specific position on live pigs.
As the backfat thickness has a direct correlation with the fat content of the pig, the Piglog 105 is an excellent tool for correct evaluation of the sow’s condition. Thereby, it is easier to scale the feed up or down, or to determine the right time for insemination.
Each measurement is calculated on the basis of reflection curves from eight sound waves emitted into the animal. If the reflection curves are consistent, the advanced software will analyze them. If not, Piglog 105 will repeat the sequence, all within seconds.
Piglog 105 measures all fat layers and provides accurate results in the range of 5 to 50mm (0.2-2.0in.). The loin muscle thickness is measured accurately in the range of 30 to 70mm (1.2 to 2.8in.).
The measurements are stored in the memory and can be downloaded to an office computer within a few seconds.
